Not as colorful as other birds, his grey body and dark black hood beautifully sets off a stunning speed stripe running down the center of his head.
Meet the Black-headed Hemispingus
The black-headed hemispingus (Pseudospingus verticalis) is an otherwise less colorful bird with a nonetheless distinctively patterned body with slaty-gray upper parts and lighter gray underparts. The head is black with a brown median stripe on the crown. The undertail coverts are rusty, all finished off by pale piercing eyes.
Females look very similar to their male counterparts.

These birds are found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
Its natural habitat is humid to wet high elevation forested regions.
Black-headed hemispingus is sometimes seen walking or hopping on leaves in the canopy or middle level of the forest searching for berries, fruit, and insects.
Two immature birds were found in a nest in Colombia last September, apart from that there is very little information on the breeding behavior of these birds.
