Acacia pied barbet breed from September through to June as monogamous and territorial birds. Both sexes excavate and build the nest hole into the underside of a branch. Within the female lays 2 to 4 eggs which are incubated by both sexes for around 12 to 18 days. The chicks are also fed by both parents and fledge around 35 days after hatching.

This species has a very large breeding range and appear to be common throughout most of this range, even with an increasing population in some areas due to the increasing amount of alien trees to nest in.
